Travel & Tea

Hey! My name’s Zoe.

I’m just a girl who got bit by the travel bug and is trying to travel where she can while being on a budget and in school! And also while drinking good coffee and tea, eating delicious food, and having an awesome time.

This blog is going to be filled with entries from my adventures (which will mostly consist around Vancouver Island and B.C. Mainland until travelling is more of a thing), along with tips for budgeting and recommendations on everything from food to things to do to where to stay.

Now that you kind of know what to expect…here’s a bit about me.

At the time I’m writing this, I’m actually only a few minutes away from turning 20 years old…which feels crazy and surreal. I’m entering this new chapter of my life and part of that “new” chapter is starting this blog to pursue another passion of mine that I’ve never focused on too much until the past few months (ironically): Travelling.

I have another blog that I’ve been writing for since 2015. It’s all about writing and reading, so if that’s any interest to you too, check it out: mylifewithbooksblog.com. However, with school, work, life, mental health, etc., etc., the task for writing for it has been pushed to the back burner. But I love that blog and don’t plan on shutting it down any time soon. I’ve been reading lots so I’m determined to get back into writing for it!

That’s a nice transition into talking about the things I love to do other than travelling, isn’t it?

As I was saying, I love to read, specifically young adult fantasy and true crime/thriller books. Some of my favourites being The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare, Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I also love to write! Since 2018, I’ve been working on a young adult fantasy novel inspired by Aztec mythology. One day I’ll finish it, I swear.

I’m also a HUGE movie fan. I adore going to the movie theatre and you bet I was at the movies the first day the re-opened in my area. (I saw In the Heights, one of my new faves for sure.) If it’s a book-to-movie adaption, comedy, Marvel, or musical, I’ll probably become obsessed with it. (I’m one of those crazy people who rewatches TV shows and movies 20+ times…)

Currently, I’m about to enter my first year of my business diploma program. I started off as an English major at the University of Victoria in 2019 but it just wasn’t for me and left after pursuing it for 2 years. I’m an entrepreneur, digital marketing-loving gal who currently works as a freelance copywriter, social media manager, and content creator (check out my freelance website 😉) who needed to switch things up. While I do love to read, Shakespeare isn’t for me.

I’ve been to many places on Vancouver Island (and lived in many as a kid), but it’s one thing to visit with your parents and another to go on your own with your boyfriend (my travel buddy!) as an adult.

Recently, I spent the month in Parksville in an Airbnb near the waters of Rathtrevor Beach with my cousin, and I have SO much to say about that wonderful experience. (Blog post coming soon!) Like Parksville, there are so many places nearby and beyond that I want to visit, and I can’t wait to share the experience with you all!
